One of the world's most advanced offshore construction vessels, North Sea Giant is the first vessel where batteries are part of the DP3 power management system. Rebuilt in 2018, the vessel's power system can be split into three separate systems with fault-isolating Electronic Bus Links from The Switch. This groundbreaking project allows the ESS to provide spinning reserve power to all parts of the ship instead of using diesel gensets, contributing to substantial reductions in costs and emissions. The vessel is operated by the shipowner company, North Sea Shipping. Wärtsilä has been overall project responsible as integrator and Corvus Energy has supplied the energy storage.
